  5. Many of us are concerned that our systems are not running at peak
  6. performance. Others have a 'feeling' that something or other is not
  7. running as it should. DiagSoft, maker of award-winning diagnostic
  8. products, has the answer for you.

  10. I took a look at QAPlus/Win 5.1. This is a complete diagnostic tool for
  11. Windows. In addition it has some DOS tools included.

  13. The program is easy to install, and will work well for both novice and
  14. expert users. It will locate and diagnose most problems associated with
  15. all major components of your PC, including LAN connections and
  16. multimedia devices. If you encounter a problem, QAPlus/Win will clearly
  17. explain it to you. With this information in hand, you can better explain
  18. it to technical support personal, thereby cutting down on long distance
  19. calls, as you get right to the problem rather than try to explain it in
  20. your own words.

  22. QAPlus/Win will test: System Board, Video, Multimedia (files and CD-ROM
  23. drive), hard disk, floppies, keyboard, COM ports, printer, mouse and, if
  24. applicable, LAN. In addition, Windows Resource Control Center guides you
  25. through comparing and editing your system configuration to enhance
  26. performance. Disk Performance Tester lets you compare the effect of up
  27. to four different configurations. I ran the test on my two hard drives
  28. with and without cache. The results follow:

  34. As you can see, using a cache has an effect. But, which cache should you
  35. use? SmartDrive, Norton Cache, PC-Kwik? With QAPlus/Win you can pick the
  36. one that gives you the most efficient performance.

  38. View and edit your CMOS settings. Check your RAM for bad chips. Do
  39. loop-back tests on your serial and parallel ports. DOS tools allow you
  40. to view: Memory Map, Hardware Interrupts and many other features.

  42. Even if you are not trouble shooting your system, QAPlus/Win, or any of
  43. the QAPlus line should be found informative by all. It will tell you
  44. things you did not know, and even some you do not care to know. But, all
  45. in all, it is a good diagnostic tool that belongs on your software
  46. shelf.
